Post 338: Virginia and DC Local Paintings by Donna Liguria

Collection of Local Paintings by Donna Liguria - VA, DC

Painting my favorite local spots and where I have lived and visited has been a walk down memory lane at times. I've painted Monticello in Charlottesville; Virginia Beach, the Governor's Mansion in Richmond up to Gunston Hall in Lorton and Mount Vernon in Alexandria. From Rosemont in Berryville and Great Falls in McLean, and the ArtFactory and Train Station in Manassas, then on to see the sites in Washington DC, my paint brushes have captured some favorite places. Then living in Blue Ridge Shores in Louisa, Virginia brings forth its own memories of growing up there.

Local Art

Here is a look at most of my Virginia and Washington DC paintings. Some were sold and/or commissioned and prints are available, while some sold at various art shows or on my Etsy shop. There is usually a story behind each one.

Painting Name: Creative Brush Small Artworks Show

Creative Brush Studio's Holiday Small Works Show will be from December 3 to December 24th, 2023, at 8951 Center St, Manassas, VA 20110. The art reception is Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 2-6pm.

I was surprised and honored to have all 3 of my art pieces accepted! Here are 3 of the total of 5 Virginia Historic Home Series that I have painted since 2022, and these 2 were entered for the Small Works Show:

Gunston Hall Virginia Historic Home Series 11x14 Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Monticello Virginia Historic Home Series 11x14 Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Mount Vernon Virginia Historic Home Series 11x14 Gallery Wrapped Canvas

The other 2 paintings included the Virginia Historic Home Series were the Governor's Mansion in Richmond and Rosemont in Berryville, Virginia (unavailable). I've considered doing more - alas - time! Although in DC, I also just got a commission for the White House at Christmas in the snow. Woohoo! White on white - a challenge!

I hope you go by and see my friends at Creative Brush in Manassas and stop in for the reception!

Post 247: Gunston Hall Virginia Historical Home Series IV - 11x14 Acrylic Canvas

Painting Name: Gunston Hall

Living in Alexandria, Northern Virginia area when I was younger and later moving to Central Virginia, I did a lot of passing by of the signs for Gunston Hall. It wasn't until moving back to Northern VA in 2007 that I more recently and finally, visited this historic home owned by George Mason a few years ago. It is always fascinating to walk through these homes and imagine life as it was then - for all that lived and worked in and around these historical homes.

What Brought About this Painting?

Painting local places in and around Virginia is a goal of mine. Places I went to years ago, places I have returned to, places I've lived and places with long histories that I hope will find my canvas.
