Post 188: The Herb Series - 4x4 Acrylic Small Herb Paintings

Painting Name: The Herb Series

The Herb Series 1: Basil

Basil is to me, the best of the herbs, a gift from the heavens, a MUST have with a home-grown red, ripe tomato. Oh, the fresh mozzarella with a good olive oil and fresh tomatoes has to have basil with it. Spaghetti sauce without basil? Unheard of and an insult. Basil pesto sauce? Yes, please!

SKU: 09DU21ACG
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 4x4 Stretched Canvas
Price: $30.00
Edition Year: 2021
Framed?: No

What Brought About this Painting?

Happy little Herb paintings are a nice way to decorate spots in and around kitchens, breakfast nooks, etc. Bob Ross can have his "happy little trees", I like my "Happy Little Herbs".

Although it is sad and I mourn at the end of the summer when the basil, which is only an annual, gets touchy when the cold starts to creep in. Basil, so tender-hearted, does not like the cold. I gather him up and either dry him for later of make something of him to save over the winter, looking forward to the next garden planting.

The Herb Series 2: Oregano

Oregano is another Happy Little Herb in my Herb Series. Another important Herb, especially in Italian cooking - AND in Herb Gardens. Especially nice is the multitude of types and that they come back every year! LOVE my perennials!

SKU: 09DV21ACG
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 4x4 Stretched Canvas
Price: $30.00
Edition Year: 2021
Framed?: No

The Herb Series 3: Golden Sage

I usually have sage in my Herb Garden but I don't use it as much as some other Herbs. Golden Sage is more of -there- because its so pretty. When cooking a chicken or a turkey, that is typically when the sage gets used.

SKU: 09DW21ACG
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 4x4 Stretched Canvas
Price: $30.00
Edition Year: 2021
Framed?: No
Commissioned? No

There are a lot of other Herbs that may get painted in my Herb Series, as always, we shall see how the painting goes and if they happen too.

Post 177: The Cactus Series, set of 3 Acrylic on Canvas, all 4x12

The Cactus Series

Cactus and succulents in general are such interesting plants and almost feel "foreign" for me here on the East Coast. I suppose the lush greenness of Virginia would feel the same from someone in the dry areas.

There are the exceptions I suppose even here in Virginia. Have you ever been to the Cactus House just outside of Richmond, Virginia? The real name of it is the "Saguaro Hill" in Henrico County. See https://richmond.com/news/local/henrico-s-desert-home-saguaro-hill-is-an-oasis/article_46e2795c-ce24-5980-996e-0d34167fa1c5.html

I don't know if they still do it but they used to give house tours, which I got to do once. Such a COOL house!! Besides cactus everywhere, a stream going under the house that you could see, a saltwater aquarium big enough that a scuba diver was needed to clean it, and decorated all around with south west -everything-. Too cool.

Anyway, as cactus don't typically need a lot of watering, for those that don't have a green thumb, cactus can make a good house plant as long as you keep them away from the foot traffic (ouch). Easier still, a painting of a cactus would require no water at all, and be much safer to the touch.

Cactus Series Images…

I love to hear what people think of the things I paint! Your interest may prickly more interest in painting more.

Trees are just ONE of the MANY things in God's creation that are so interesting to paint. And looking up is another great view of one too.

Just Look Up is to remember to look up - not just to see the beautiful tree trunk, leaves, and sky, but to remember to look up and say hello to God and remember who He is.

Painting in Progress Images…
Trees are just ONE of the MANY things in God's creation that are so interesting to paint.

Monday, May 24 2021 6:09 PM - When I paint, I try to always paint the thing farthest away then layer everything else on top of it. Which means that the sun and the sky (then clouds if needed) are painted first, then the tree branches and then all the leaves. The tree trunk will get some detail now because I am not going to layer on top of it, but some of the branches will get hidden by all the leaves once I get to that point.

Tuesday, May 25, 2021 7:20 AM - Branches are filled in now the leaves...about six million of them, in various greens, yellow greens, olive green, dark green, an occasional orange/brown.

Tuesday, May 25, 2021 9:10 AM Leaves, more leaves, more and more leaves. Just think, someone may have to rake up those leaves in the fall...
