Post 303: Art Reception at Art at the Mill

Art Reception at Art at the Mill

Sunday, April 30, 2023 Millwood, Virginia. Oh the weather outside was frightful once again, rain-rain-rain - its driving us insane. Nonetheless, off to Middleburg we go. There is an art reception to attend!

15 Tannery Lane, Millwood, VA 22646

For the artists, after grabbing and sticking your name tag on yourself, the next thing to do is to look at all of the art with the ultimate goal of finding where your own art work is. Insert many "oooo's" and "aaaahs" here as you wander the Mill.

The Spring Art at the Mill Show runs between Saturday, April 22 to Sunday, May 7, 2023. Absolutely, all of the artwork is juried in (out of about 1600 entries). It was interesting speaking to the Director, Nathan Stalvey and hearing a bit of the history on this 30+ year old art show in horse-country Virginia.

Of course, with about 1000 art works around the gallery from 300 artists, that's a lot of art. Apparently, when artwork sells it can be carried out by the buyer immediately or is wrapped until the buyer comes to pick it up. And the volunteers scurry to fill in and move artwork as it is sold right off the walls.

It is inspirational to walk around the gallery! So much awesome and remarkable artwork. And such variety! The cows on surfboards was memorial.

Water was flowing through the Mill, but there was no flour being ground today.

Read the history of the Mill here

Main floor of the gallery, front entrance to the left. The downstairs was closed. See blog post from the Drop Off Day for a few pics of the bottom floor.

Found two of mine in the far corner on the main floor - "Sunrise at the Historic Manassas Art Factory" (top left) and "Mount Vernon Virginia Historical Home Series" (third row bottom)

Upstairs, found one of Mark Murphy's watercolors (center bottom) with the father/daughter at the beach

And when we say art was everywhere, we mean e v e r y w h e r e. Found my "Sunrise at Historic Manassas Train Station" here.

PWAS represented! Prince William Art Society members at Art at the Mill (l-r) - Donna Liguria, Mark Murphy, Michelle Baker and Maureen Guillot

And the MAG art group as well - Manassas Art Guild at Art at the Mill - Donna, Laura Lavarnway, and Maureen

Charcuterie selections set all around, adult beverages and more. Interesting display of the art. But with that much art, stacking them is the only real option!

It was fun meeting the other artists! Met the lady that did the zebra above, Diana Adams-Schmidt.

Art in every nook and cranny, occasionally in window sills, I should have thought to look up too!

Back to Woodbridge and to the Open Space Gallery for another art drop off. The May 3 - June 18, 2023 art show "April Showers Bring May Flowers" art show is beginning in a couple of days! All around, rubbing elbows with a lot of artists today. A GREAT DAY!

You know, there is a Fall Art at the Mill art show too...

Post 276: Art Updates, Where Donna Liguria's Art is Now

Art Updates, Where Donna Liguria's Art is Now

I'd like to say I'm all over the place, but that wouldn't technically be quite right. I am definitely in a few places at the moment though. From Stonebridge and into Manassas, I've got some art around the neighborhood.

Open Space Arts at Stonebridge

Beginning on November 2 and running until November 20 is the Open Space Arts "Harvest of Artists" art show at 15000 #140 Potomac Town Center, Woodbridge, VA. The art show will be local PWC artists, 18 and older from all over the area including some of the Prince William Art Society (PWAS) artists.

So if you are in Prince William County, come on by the art gallery at the Stonebridge Shopping Center where Wegman's is - we are right across the street from DSW. The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday, 12-7pm and Sunday 12-5pm. Here is a few samples from some artwork I will have on display:

"A Day at Blue Ridge Shores" 24x24 Acrylic

"A Bolt of Light in the Dark" 9x12 Acrylic (this one is no longer on display)

"Charcuterie Board" 16x20 Acrylic

"Mercury Glass Flower Arrangement" 16x20 Acrylic (This one is no longer on display)

"Saltwater Aquarium" 16x20 Acrylic

In Manassas, Virginia

Just a hop down the road in Historic downtown Manassas are some wonderful spaces for the arts, actually Manassas LOVES the arts and artists! Art is everywhere you look! And I'm in a few of the spots at the moment!

Grounds Central Station

On Main Street in Manassas is a wonderful coffee shop, called Grounds Central Station at 9360 Main St, Manassas, VA 20110. Step inside and get a beverage of choice and see the Paint! Manassas art show submissions from the p-ART-ners Network - local artists were tasked with painting things within the Historical Manassas downtown area. The artwork was juried in on October 24 and will be judged and awarded on Friday, November 4, 2022. The artwork is for sale as well and will be up until November 21.

I painted 2 Manassas locations, as per below, from the early morning of October 8 for the Artist Inventory sale that took place. It was a beautiful but very cool morning with the sun just coming up.

"Sunrise at Historic ARTFactory in Manassas" 11x14 Acrylic

"Sunrise at Historic Manassas Train Station" 16x20 Acrylic

Lovejoy Gallery

Directly above Grounds Central Station is a new gallery set to open November 4, called Lovejoy Gallery on Main at 9358 Main Street, Manassas, Virginia 20110.

The Gallery Walk art event takes place on Friday, November 4 and I have 4 pieces of art at Lovejoy. Here is what you will see of mine in person if you go (and please do):

"No One Can Teach Riding So Well As A Horse" 18x24 Acrylic

"Rose Garden Walk" Acrylic

"Streams Never Stay the Same" 11x14 Acrylic

"Strutting My Peacock Stuff" 18x24 Acrylic

Centerfuse

On November 4, the plan is to also be at Centerfuse at 9071 Center Street, Manassas with the Manassas Art Guild (MAG). One busy evening!

Creative Brush Studio

And finally at the Creative Brush Studio at 951 Center St, Manassas, VA 20110, they are currently celebrating their 5th annual Small Works Art Show that is set to begin November 4 with a grand opening reception Sunday, November 6. This show is set to run until December 24th.

"Mahogany Humidor 2" 8x10 Acrylic

Yes, yes, please everyone get out there and check ALL the spots out! We artists just love it when you take a few moments to see what we create. I'll be that blur dashing by Friday evening in Manassas.

And remember to support your local arts!

Post 274: Artist Inventory Sale October 8, 2022 Manassas, VA

Artist Inventory Sale October 8, 2022 Manassas, VA

The Artist Inventory Sale and Fall Festival in Manassas, Virginia was on Saturday, October 8, 2022 with the Manassas Art Guild (MAG), p-ART-ners, some Prince William Art Society (PWAS) members and more under the Harris Pavilion canopy. Here are some pictures from that rather chilly day in early October. Thank goodness for the hot chocolate nearby!

A Beautiful Day but a Chilly One

The temperature sure didn't get where everyone thought it would get to that Saturday. After the rainy weather from the previous weekend though, we did enjoy the crisp blue sky and the glow from the sunrise over Manassas. After dropping off our supplies at the pavilion, we went to the top of the parking garage and I took these snap shots.

I also needed some reference photos for the upcoming Paint Manassas art show sponsored by p-ART-ners.
