Post 179: Underwater Coral Floral, 16x20 Acrylic on Canvas In Progress

Painting Name: Underwater Coral Floral

Under the water, under the sea, the coral and fish live in harmony...until someone gets hungry.

SKU: 08CX21ACL2
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 16x20 Stretched Canvas
Price: $Pending
Edition Year: 2021
Framed?: No
Commissioned? No

What Brought About this Painting?

Oh no, now I have the Sponge Bob theme stuck in my head...THAT has got to stop!

The beauty of the Earth is quite extraordinary, and in the ocean, maybe even more so. This work is still in progress as shown below. Our creator is pretty creative isn't He?

Underwater sea life of coral and the some of the fish that live around it including a sea turtle.

Painting in Progress Images…

Monday, August 9, 2021 9:27AM Still working on this painting, the coral isn't quite where I want it and I feel like it can use some other sea creatures in it. Any ideas? A sea turtle, a dolphin, a shark?
Side note: that's a bit of sunshine showing in the right top corner from the window.

Monday, August 9, 2021 11:14 AM A few new fish swam in.

And the Finished Painting

Wednesday, August 11, 2021 9:29 AM I do believe I am done with this underwater painting. I know the traffic can be very busy around the coral reefs of the world. Commuting can be very congested, but I am more fond of a painting not being too overly busy.

So the painting is now at the drying stage and then the varnishing on its way to "curing".

Post 177: The Cactus Series, set of 3 Acrylic on Canvas, all 4x12

The Cactus Series

Cactus and succulents in general are such interesting plants and almost feel "foreign" for me here on the East Coast. I suppose the lush greenness of Virginia would feel the same from someone in the dry areas.

There are the exceptions I suppose even here in Virginia. Have you ever been to the Cactus House just outside of Richmond, Virginia? The real name of it is the "Saguaro Hill" in Henrico County. See https://richmond.com/news/local/henrico-s-desert-home-saguaro-hill-is-an-oasis/article_46e2795c-ce24-5980-996e-0d34167fa1c5.html

I don't know if they still do it but they used to give house tours, which I got to do once. Such a COOL house!! Besides cactus everywhere, a stream going under the house that you could see, a saltwater aquarium big enough that a scuba diver was needed to clean it, and decorated all around with south west -everything-. Too cool.

Anyway, as cactus don't typically need a lot of watering, for those that don't have a green thumb, cactus can make a good house plant as long as you keep them away from the foot traffic (ouch). Easier still, a painting of a cactus would require no water at all, and be much safer to the touch.

Cactus Series Images…

I love to hear what people think of the things I paint! Your interest may prickly more interest in painting more.

Post 176: The Busy Bee Series of Paintings

The Busy Bee Series of Paintings

I recently painted a series of paintings I am calling "The Busy Bee Series". These are (at least so far) mostly bumble bees, but I do have a honey bee flying through the canvases.

What brought about the Busy Bee Series?

This little painting started the breathtaking business of busy bees (say that 3 times fast to ward off being stung). I recently sold this painting at Clearbrook Center of the Arts through my PWAS group (go me!) so of course, I needed more bee paintings, right?

Buzz the Bee, 4x5 Acrylic on Canvas by Donna Liguria

Busy Bee Series, the List

  1. Buzz the Bee, 4x5
  2. A Bumble Bee's Butt, 4x4
  3. Buzz the Bee 2, 4x4
  4. Honey Bee at Work, 4x4
  5. Bee Flower Feast, 4x4
  6. I Was Here First, 4x4
  7. Bee Butt Over Flowers, 4x4
Click on the link to go to the Bee Story for each one. Which one do you like best?

What makes a Paint Series?

For me, a paint series will probably consist of the same subject, painted one after the other, typically on the same size canvas. That would be a more true series than a lot of variations in canvas size.

For instance, in June and July I painted 4 different Blue Heron paintings. I sold the first one, tried to sell the second one but got a commission for a larger one and someone asked for a smaller one. I may end up calling that a series but the size of canvases were 2 at 10 by 20 inch, 1 at 15 by 30 inch and 1 at 5 by 7. The Busy Bee Series were all intentionally painted as a series and mostly of the same size or close to it.

Anyway, its a little thing. A painting is a painting, is a painting.

Post 175: Cactus Series 3: Lonely in the Desert, 4x12 Acrylic on Canvas

Painting Name: Lonely in the Desert

Cactus Series is a group of three 4x12 inch canvases with different cactus scenes. "Lonely in the Desert" is a single tall cactus braving the heat.

SKU: 08CW21AC
Medium: Acrylic

Price: SOLD
Edition Year: 2021
Series: Cactus Series

What Brought About this Painting?

For me, I am thinking at least 3 is a series of the same subject, probably of the same size. Two are just "I painted 2 of these" and three is a theme going. Makes sense to me at least.

Shown below are all three paintings of the Cactus Series, in order of:

  1. A Prickly Painting 4x12 acrylic (left)
  2. Cacti Patch 4 x 12 acrylic (middle)
  3. Lonely in the Desert 4 x 12 acrylic (right)
