What Brought About this Painting?
Doesn't everyone dream of a day, a week, a month at the beach - nothing but you (MAYBE the family), the ocean, the sun (wearing sunscreen of course), with sand between the toes and a nice breeze in your hair? A nice beverage, some snacks, no phone, no zoom, no boss, not a trouble in all the world?

This is what this painting is about. Enjoying a nice day with all that, relaxing and not worried about a clock, a deadline, a "MOMMIEEEEEE!" or a "DADDYYYYYY!". Life is good for ME!

Post 128: Beach Grass Sand Dune, 6x6 Acrylic on Stretched Canvas

Painting Name: Beach Grass Sand Dune

Summer breeze, makes me feel fine...

SKU: 05BP21AC
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 6x6 Stretched Canvas
Price: SOLD
Edition Year: 2021
Commissioned? No

What Brought About this Painting?
I had a larger version of this painting on Etsy that recently sold, so I HAD to try another one. It's a smaller one but I can picture someone placing this on their desk at work - sort of their escape image when the day is tense. - A mind escape for a few minutes.

Toes in the sand, that ocean breeze fluttering your hair (if you have hair), your flip flops flipping sand up, sunshine on your face, the smell of the ocean air... it's all waiting for you.

Post 100: A Painting In Progress: Sunrise Over Nags Head North Carolina

Painting in Progress: Sunrise Over Nags Head North Carolina

A milestone! My 100th blog post. Go me!

SKU: 04BF21ACG
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 16x20 Gallery Wrapped Stretched Canvas
Price: Commissioned Work
Edition Year: 2021
Commissioned? Yes

Painting in Progress Images…
First, I will show the photograph that this painting will be based on, taken by D. Jackson of Virginia.

Photo by DJackson, Nags Head, North Carolina Pier

Prep work on the canvas has begun. Gesso is the base, a minimum of 3 coats but as many as 5 can be applied no matter the quality of the canvas. Gesso improves the "tooth" of the canvas surface of even the lighter weight canvases.

Undercoating is in progress.

Subtle changes, but the features slowly are making an appearance.

And the sun puts in an appearance...

Post 97: My Island Paradise in a Red Dress, 12x12 Acrylic Canvas

Painting Name: My Island Paradise in a Red Dress

When I wanted to paint something tropical, I just didn't know that this was where the painting would end up. But I'm glad it did end up here.

SKU: 03BB21AC
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 12 x 12 Stretched Canvas
Framed: Yes, a simple natural floating frame
Edition Year: 2021
Check Availability and Prints on my Etsy Shop

What Brought About this Painting?
"No man is an island" - true. But wouldn't it be great to be sitting on one right now? The sun on your face (with sunscreen of course), in a red dress, your feet dangling above the waves and the ocean breeze in your hair. Your cell phone - who cares where it is; the latest news - breakfast is sometime soon.

While your toes are dangling over the water, life under the waves is swimming along.

The sea turtle and fish are going about their daily existence with breakfast on their minds as well.

There are spots in the world where we like to sit back and relax and just enjoy the simple things in life, where is yours?

Painted with acrylics, this 12 by 12 inch painting would welcome the viewer each day with the quiet calmness that the Creator has the earth in His hands, life goes on...just stop and enjoy the ocean breeze and salty mist on your face occasionally.

Post 74: There Once Was A Boat 16x20 Acrylic

Painting Name: There Once Was a Boat

Can you imagine what Noah and his family were thinking as they spent all that time floating around, caring for all the animals with them?

SKU: 02AC21AC
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 16x20 Stretched Canvas
Framed?: Yes, a simple antique gold floating frame
Edition Year: 2021
Check Availability and Prints on my Etsy Shop

What Brought About this Painting?
Well one morning I woke up with the thought to paint Noah's Ark floating out on the water. I didn't want the "bathtub kiddie ark" that you often see depicted and I did not want the stormy skies Ark on the angry water. Another thing I didn't think was too realistic was a bunch of the animals on the top deck looking out over the water. It just didn't seem that Noah would have allowed that or that it was plausible (Noah and family would have had to clean the decks), nor would the Ark have been built that way.

So, as I usually do, I did some research first to get an idea on what the Ark should look like without too much "artistic license". In my internet travels, what could be more interesting than some of the videos about Mount Ararat in Turkey and if they have found the ark? And of special interest to me is the Ark Encounter in Kentucky which led me to this video that I found absolutely fascinating...

Noah’s Ark and the Flood with Dr. Georgia Purdom

This is an hour long video and well worth the viewing and tackles the following:

"Was Noah’s Flood global? How big was the Ark? How did Noah fit all the animals on the Ark? Is there any evidence in rock layers and fossils for the Flood? This presentation will equip you with biblical and scientific answers that show that the Genesis account of the Ark and Flood are true history." A very cool video.

In Genesis, we are told some basics on what the ark looked like along with the size and we know it did not have sails. God steered the Ark where He wanted it. We know it was made of gopher wood and sealed in pitch inside and out. So what color did that make it?

Genesis 6 to 9 tells the story of Noah and about the Ark.

The Size: is figured to be 510 feet long (from the cubit measurements).

The Color: was probably black, maybe dark gray.

The Wood: Unknown tree today, but it was covered with pitch anyway.

Side Note: I would like to go and see the Ark Encounter someday. There are a lot of videos about the exhibits to check out so have a look at the Ark Encounter https://arkencounter.com/

I found this video too, its a good one. Fascinating!

The Ark had several levels and it had one window and one door. Think on that one a moment: One way to be saved and once the door is shut, no one else can enter.

How long did it take for Noah to build the Ark? It is estimated that it took 55 to 75 years for Noah to build the Ark, which also allows time for the people to hear about what was coming. (And that means the pitch would be baked by the sun for quite awhile too.)

We know that God caused wind to help dry the flood waters, which follows that the sea was probably fairly wavy to some degree as well and the sun would have helped evaporate water too.

So the painting started and this is where I ended up...

Often I will look at a painting for a day or so before deciding if it needs anything else. I saw a painting of the Ark with a whale tail but that seems gratuitous, as well as a dove. I would imagine Noah and family had quite a long time of floating about before Noah started letting the dove do a test flight.

I also considered the top of Mount Ararat appearing from under the flood waters off in the distance which is the resting place the Bible says where the Ark is. Genesis 8: 4 "Then the Ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat."

Let me know what you think.

Post 51: Ocean Waves Rolling Along 11x14 Acrylic on Canvas

Painting Name: Ocean Waves Rolling Along

SKU:  01H21ACG
Medium:  Acrylic
Size:  11x14 Gallery Wrapped Stretched Canvas
Framed?: No
Edition Year: 2021
Commissioned? No

About this Painting…

1/18/21 Final tweaking happening now but this is very close to IT. This was a smaller canvas, 11x14, but I really want to do a larger version of a rolling ocean soon. I think ocean artwork speaks to most people, how about you?

I'm really going to need to work on better photographs too. My cell phone does not do any of my painting justice - the colors are far more intense in person.

Painting in Progress Images…

I've been wanting to paint ocean waves for a long time so I'm starting one off; a smaller one first. Hopefully a larger version soon after.

I just started this painting this morning (January 17, 2021) and periodically I need to feel the ocean spray and aim this at myself...

1/18/21 Progress as of 10 am today:
