Post 164: Singing in the Rain, 8x10 Acrylic on Canvas

Painting Name: Singing in the Rain

Some of my favorite movies have always been the old classics, even the musicals with all the dancing about and breaking into song at the drop of a hat. Gene Kelly in "Singing in the Rain" is one of those.

SKU: 07CL21ACL2
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 8x10 Stretched Canvas
Edition Year: 2021
Framed?: No

What Brought About this Painting?

I wanted to paint a series of old movie remembrances and this is the second one, with the first one being Dorothy's Ruby Slippers from the Wizard of Oz. See the post for that painting.

Was there ever anyone as good as Gene Kelly? I think not. He acted, he sang, he danced, he choregraphed and he directed "Singing in the Rain" which also starred Donald O'Conner and Debbie Reynolds. The movie was made in 1952 and IS an American classic in the musical romantic comedy genre.

This painting is a tribute to the iconic scene and dance sequence when he sang in the rain. Nobody like Gene Kelly...

Thursday, July 29, 2021 11:36 AM I don't paint people. I'm trying to remember if I ever painted people. My brush always avoided people. God only knows where this painting of Gene Kelly will end up... Fingers clenched, I mean crossed, here we go...

Thursday, July 29, 2021 2:17 PM This best thing about painting people so far away, the details are sort of go away...

Thursday, July 29, 2021 4:58 PM I'm sure you are all really impressed with my people skills now... (cough, cough).

Thursday, July 29, 2021 9:32 PM I'm thinking I am done with Gene Kelly.

Post 161: A Painting in Progress: Genesis to Revelations - He's Got This

A Painting in Progress: Genesis to Revelations - He's Got This

He holds the world and all that inhabit it. He always has, He always will. He is in control of this planet.

What Brought About this Painting?

I am SURE I am not the only artist that wakes up with a painting in their mind, that must be put on canvas. This morning, I saw the Earth in God's hands - or more specifically, in Christ's hands as a message to the world.

"He's got the whole world in His hands" is an old song that came to mind but also reading Romans 2 about Gods tolerance, patience, and His kindness with us humans - wanting us to turn to Him.

Romans 1:20 "For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse."

In other words, and adding the previous verses to this - people try to cancel God, (cancel the truth of God). Although God is invisible, we see the truths of a Creator with huge eternal, inexhaustible power and divinity, intricately making every single animal, molecule, mountain and person. His designs are fantastic and creative.

No big bangs nor evolution created all this. We all inherit at birth, an internal sense of right and wrong although we easily choose to do what we know to be wrong especially if it serves our own interests at VERY early ages.

We are living in the time of Grace after Christ was born, lived, died and rose again then ascended to Heaven. He is going to return. We do not know the hour, day, year of His return, but He IS coming back.

Post 160: Jellyfish Hijinks, 8x16 Acrylic on Stretched Canvas

Painting Name: Jellyfish Hijinks

In the water, especially in an aquarium, jellyfish can be quite beautiful creatures. Having that glass between you and them is the key there, as up close and in person while in the water with them is NOT where I would ever want to be.

SKU: 07CI21ACL2
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 8x16 Stretched Canvas
Edition Year: 2021
Framed?: No
Check Availability and Prints on my Etsy Shop

What Brought About this Painting?

There are so many creatures in the world that we may never encounter, especially in the deep blue oceans, and that is a GREAT thing. Some we may see at a zoo or an aquarium. Some we may only see pictures of. And sometimes, we may see them beached, ruined in death, baking in the sun and shriveled.

Jellyfish don't look like much when found on the beach. It is while in the ocean water where we can appreciate them, from a safe distance. Or on a canvas...

Post 159: Egret in the Pond, 5x7 Acrylic

Painting Name: Egret in the Pond

Enough with the Blue Herons for now, I hope! Time for an Egret!

SKU: 07CH21AC
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 5x7 Stretched Canvas
Price: $50.00 + Shipping
Edition Year: 2021
Framed?: No
Commissioned? No

What Brought About this Painting?

I've been painting some blue heron pictures which are such beautiful birds but wanted to have a change of pace, hence, a white egret. The egrets are a little smaller than the great blue herons. The big difference in them is the color of the legs. Egrets have black legs and the blue herons have lighter colored legs. Blue herons may also have frillier feathering on their breasts and slightly thicker beaks.

When I lived at Tanyard in Louisa, I had a pond in my back yard. I've told stories about it before but I remember out of the corner of my eye, catching a glimpse of a very large object going by my back windows. Sure enough, looking over at the koi pond, there would be an egret looking for dinner.

My pond did not have shallow places or anywhere for the egret to stand other than on top of the rocks. Very, very rarely would I find any fish remains in the yard - and that may not have been because of an egret...But they were so fascinating to watch and such elegant birds, strolling through the garden around the koi pond.

Post 158: A Painting in Progress - Jellyfish Hijinks

A Painting in Progress: Jellyfish Hijinks

It is rather amazing that something so -yukky- can be so beautiful. Beautiful and terrifying. Beautiful to see floating and drifting about but -do not touch- ! They can sting (even if dead) and some of them can kill.

Painting in Progress Images…

What would you name this Jellyfish Painting? Help me name it! "Jellyfish" just doesn't seem right...

Ok, I came up with one. Jellyfish Hijinks. It works. Playful, mischievous, rowdy activity as perpetrated by the jellyfish.

Wondering a bit online whilst considering the jellyfish, I had in mind "on the ocean, blue"...and I found this band called The Ocean Blue and the name of the song is "Between Something and Nothing" https://youtu.be/SCIEv73PF4Y - nice lyrics...

"...Could not convey the meaning, Of what this man has done, In a painting, On canvas"

This is the PHOTO that my painting will be loosely based on is by Kristy Galecka at https://unsplash.com/@kgalecka13

Photo Credits: Kristy Galecka on Unsplash - think she took the photo viewing an aquarium.

I'm going with a narrow canvas - 8x16. Anyway, I'm starting to wash in the background and layout. Layer, layer, layer...

Thursday, July 22, 2021 12:51 PM - Jellies - I believe these brown jellyfish are Compass Jellyfish. https://www.beaches.ie/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/jellyfish-id-card.pdf

Thursday, July 22, 2021 3:47 PM - I am liking these Jellies!

Friday, July 23, 2021 9:48 AM - I still need a name for Jellyfish. And the debate has begun on is this done or not? What else does it need? Should I stop? What is it missing? Will anything else added start being too much?

The end of a painting is often up for debate. I would think this is true for many artists? How about you?
