Post 57: Sun, Sand, Surf Seashore 16x20 Acrylic

Painting Name: Sun, Sand, Surf Seashore

SKU: 01R21AC
Medium:  Acrylic
Size:  16x20 Stretched Canvas
Price: $370.00 + Shipping
Framed?: Yes, a simple black floating frame
Edition Year: 2021
Commissioned? No
About this Painting…

I debated for awhile...paused in painting...I thunk and I thunk and I thunk.
Should I put in a boat?
A sailboat?
A ship?
A beachball?
An umbrella?
A beach chair?
A bird?
Anything else?

Final decision, no.

Leave the scene to your imagination.

Much like staging a house with only the essentials so that you can imagine what the room is used for and how you will live in the house, I leave the painting to you to imagine yourself HERE.

So what do you think?

I think the point IS that sometimes a painting is a "Vacation on a Wall". You wish you were there or a reminder of a time when you were in a similar place.

Maybe sometime soon I will add in one or two of the other touches, but I rather like "cutting the clutter".

If only I could do so around the house...

About this Painting…

This is version 2 of African Violets - I had to paint it again because I sold the other one. African Violets in a Terracotta Pot 2 is slightly different than the first one of course, as each are handpainted.

The picture quality shown here was not as nice as version 1 and 3 and alas, it is on its way to its new home these were the quick pictures taken on a less than sunny day.

Post 53: A Big OOOPS Moment: Painting Disasters

Painting Disasters - Big OOOPS Moments

If you have ever painted your house or a room in your house, you have probably had a tale to tell of a painting disaster. If you are an artist – a painter, a creator of some sort, you more than likely also have a disaster of some sort to claim, albeit hopefully on a much smaller scale.

I can think of 2 I have had so far. I say so far because it is basically inevitable. Whether a painting project in a home or in the art studio, something disastrous with paint WILL HAPPEN. What could go wrong with a tray of paint lying on the floor in a room? Or a cup of paint on a table? Or a paintbrush sitting on the edge of your palette?

Disaster One

Some years ago, I had a paint business called WallDreams. I was lucky enough to be hired for murals, faux painting and wall texturing work in some Virginia restaurants and homes. As any professional knows, the setup is all about preparing so that accidents DO NOT HAPPEN. But of course, they still can. And do.

The first painting disaster I am thinking of was the painting of a dining room for a family member early in my painting career. The paint drop cloths are down, check. The room is taped off, check. The ladder is setup, check. The paint rollers and paint trays are ready to roll…pun intended, and check. Let’s get this room painted!

And no, I did not step into the paint tray while climbing down the ladder. But someone did.

And man, did that cat run.

Lucky for me that time…the cousin was home, and she chased the cat.

First things first: Find cat. Clean cat before cat started licking paws. Rinse, repeat.

Second thing: Track the cat. I wonder if she still found more of the paint trail years later. The cat was traumatized of course but survived none the worse for wear.

Moral of the story: must remember to shut the critters away next time.

*Anyone know which cousin’s house Disaster 1 was and the name of the cat?

Disaster Two

I was painting a small bathroom just off a kitchen, again for another family member (I have a big family, I’m lucky that way) and again – drop cloths, taped off, paint tray and rollers.

Mini cousin stepped in it that time and major clean up – at least the drop cloth caught the brunt of it.

Moral of the story: must remember to shut the critters away next time. (kidding)

What to do in case of spills and painting disasters

Fabric softener. YES, you heard it. I have fabric softener handy for water-based paints clean up. I use fabric softener with water for cleaning brushes and for cleaning messes. I have also used it to clean paint rollers in a bucket.

There are plenty of painting disaster relief articles out there for various spills which are good to know before you start a project, because as paint dries, it does get harder to fix that disaster.

Post 52: Art I Like: Władysław Czachórski (1850-1911) The Bouquet

Art I Like: WÅ‚adysÅ‚aw Czachórski, The Bouquet

I have a Twitter site for Donna Liguria Art at https://twitter.com/DonnaLiguria where, of course, I started following other artists, art lovers, galleries and more. On it, I came across this painting and fell in love with it. It is extraordinary to me, how about you? Other adjectives that come to mind is exquisite, stunning, gorgeous...I think I run out of them.

Post 51: Ocean Waves Rolling Along 11x14 Acrylic on Canvas

Painting Name: Ocean Waves Rolling Along

SKU:  01H21ACG
Medium:  Acrylic
Size:  11x14 Gallery Wrapped Stretched Canvas
Framed?: No
Edition Year: 2021
Commissioned? No

About this Painting…

1/18/21 Final tweaking happening now but this is very close to IT. This was a smaller canvas, 11x14, but I really want to do a larger version of a rolling ocean soon. I think ocean artwork speaks to most people, how about you?

I'm really going to need to work on better photographs too. My cell phone does not do any of my painting justice - the colors are far more intense in person.
