On Our Way to Art at the Mill
Over the river and through the woods, to Millwood, Virginia we go! Twice a year - when and IF, your artwork is juried into the Art at the Mill Art Show in the Spring and/or Fall, we gladly make the trek to the Burwell-Morgan Mill. We LOVE this art show - its the largest show is the area I believe, and such a lovely location.
Fall Art at the Mill Sept-Oct 2026
Art at the Mill is a biannual art show held at the Burwell-Morgan Mill at 15 Tannery Lane, Millwood, VA. This fall's show has an art delivery date of today and tomorrow - August 28 and 29, which followed the submission and jurying then the notification process of whether your artwork was selected or not to show.
The actual beginning of the show is Saturday, September 19 and will run until Sunday, October 4. It takes a village and a lot of people to put together an art show of this magnitude! You figure that if around 900-1000 art pieces are selected to show (for EACH show) then how many were NOT selected? That's about 1000 pieces from about 300 artists each Spring and again in the Fall!
Artwork delivered this weekend are a timed delivery process and the check in process is very quick. Stop at one table and give your name and your art labels are handed to you. Stop at next table and your art work is officially "checked" - they must make sure it is the artwork that WAS selected, that it is prepared correctly for hanging, and the labels are attached.
Another batch of volunteers then take each piece and distributes them either around the gallery or upstairs to the To-be-shown-as-space-opens area. Not to worry, all artwork will appear on the online art gallery on the website when the page opens, on or about Sept 18. All artwork is available to their "big buyers" first.
After all the artwork has been delivered, the real hanging of the show begins - and that actually runs the entire length of the show as when artwork sells, pieces are brought from the storage to fill the empty spaces. Once all artwork is down, art is continuously redistributed around the ground and main show space to show the piece to its best advantage.
Because of the online Art Call website that Art at the Mill uses to manage their art shows, as soon as artwork sells, the artists are also notified. Sure, they can check their art submission page and follow it there too, but the Online Gallery is easy to lookup your name too and check if it sold or not. The Art Call site is here https://artatthemillfall2026.artcall.org/
The art reception is Sunday, September 27 from 2-5pm
So now the waiting for the show to start begins!

Pictures of the Burwell-Morgan Mill
Pictures from Art at the Mill today, with Bettie Sperty and Sandra McClelland Lewin and I checking in our art. We also saw a few faces we recognized, Terry Sandin and Mark Clifton. The artwork already there was incredible!! Oh my gosh, I think this show will be awesome!
You have to remember that the Burwell-Morgan Mill is a live, working mill. As I understand it, when the art show is in effect, the grinding does not happen as the dust is in the air. So interestingly, with today being an art delivery day, taking pictures of the mill without the art up yet is pretty fascinating. What do you think?
Minnow were in the water. So this is the stream that feeds the mill although the water is diverted right now.
I highly encourage the artists that I know, in the art groups that I belong to, to at least GO SEE THIS SHOW!! Being accepted into this show is an honor! Set those calendars and take a lil trip, out to Millwood - exceptional - especially when attached to a beautiful day!
Artists: Good luck at this show!
