Post 221: The Stonebridge Art Show November 26 - December 12, 2021

The Stonebridge Art Show was November 26 - December 12, 2021

The art show at Stonebridge was an awesome show. I am very grateful to everyone that participated and especially those that had a hand in getting us there to be in it. The Prince William County Arts Council and Prince William Art Society are both awesome ARTS groups to be a part of - heads up artists in the area - if you want to get your art 'out there' to be seen - a great way to start is to JOIN an art group! Start local and spread out baby!

Although I didn't sell any of my larger works at this show, they did garner a LOT of votes, discussion and gratefully appreciation. I was contacted by one young guy that loved my "Belmont Bay" painting and wanted a print of it, so he came back to purchase it the next weekend! Many PWAS Members sold some very, very nice artwork at the show and all of the people that visited loved having the gallery there to see.

Here is the artwork I had on display at Stonebridge...

My Mini Paintings on display - the Horse Face, the Peacock, the Goldfish, and the Hobbit Hole all sold.

"Mountain Path" tied for second in the voting for People's Choice Award

"Belmont Bay Marina on the Occoquan River"

"Sailing Away"

"No One Can Teach Riding So Well As a Horse"

"Mount Everest"

Post 220: I've Been Busy! December is the Busiest Month!

I've Been Busy! December is the Busiest Month!

Like everyone else at this time of year, I've been busy...in my own way of course. I haven't necessarily kept my own blog updated as much but wanted to show that there is art work in progress and/or in their final stages of production.

The mini paintings are dancing in my head! I bought a box of 100 mini canvases awhile back and noticed yesterday that I have painted 85 out of the 100 so far. (That prompted me to buy another box...)

Varnishing time!

So all of these will be posted soon. The larger works will be wired and ready and the mini paintings may be going to new homes too.

So yes, I've been busy! Christmas is almost here!

Post 219: Pink Parasol in Progress

Painting Name: Pink Parasol - in Progress

This painting is rather ambitious of me. I've always said, "I don't paint people." Yet, here I am, trying to paint people. This painting is of a man and woman in a row boat on a lake. The woman is in a pink dress with a pink parasol - with a Victorian time frame on it.

Status: In Progress

SKU: 12GG21AC
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 16x20 Stretched Canvas
Edition Year: 2021
Framed?: No
Check availability and Prints on my Etsy Shop

What Brought About this Painting?

An attempt to paint people. I'm reminded of all the sayings like, "if at first you don't succeed, try, try again" and "you don't know if you can do something unless you try" and "practice makes perfect". So, it may take a few attempts but I'll give it the attempt(s)...

And I've already painted over the woman's face twice.

Painting in Progress Images…

Actually, I started this painting a couple days ago, so the first rough in is below:

Let the games begin...rough paint in.

Sunday, December 12, 2021 10:16 PM A busy weekend. Volunteered at Clearbrook yesterday - there was a Clearbrook Winter Wonderland going on from 12 to 2 so we had a HUGE day because Santa was in the gallery. Wall to wall parents and kids. Then today I volunteered 12 to 3 at Stonebridge with today being the last day of that art show. Went back to Stonebridge at 5:30 and a bunch of us took our art down (if it didn't already sell) and took it home. The rest of the PWAS members will pick up theirs on Monday.

More added to the painting - still not happy with her face. And redoing the left bottom, wasn't happy with the ripples.

Post 218: East Coast Beach Sunrise In Progress

Painting Name: East Coast Beach Sunrise

The inspiration of a sunrise on the East Coast of the United States.

SKU: 12GF21ACG
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 20x20 Gallery Wrapped Stretched Canvas
Price: $Pending
Edition Year: 2021
Framed?: No
Commissioned? No

What Brought About this Painting?

I haven't traveled through the United States all that much so my "view" is limited as far as sunrises. I have been to a few of the beaches in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida a few times to see the sun rise out over the water with many of those views being quite spectacular.

A beautiful sunrise is a great way to start a day, in my belief. We have to remember who our Creator is and the beauty of the world He (originally) gave us. Like the beauty of a rainbow, a colorful sunrise, really the breaking of a new day can be such an inspiration to thank God for that love He hands to us and for us each and every hour of every day.

The actual inspiration for this painting came from a picture my cousin, Dwayne Jackson took and he commissioned a painting from me based on that image called, "Sunrise at Nags Head, North Carolina". See post https://donnascavepainting.blogspot.com/2021/04/sunrise-over-nags-head-north-carolina.html

I knew I wanted to paint more sunrises, so this painting is a continuation of that theme.

I have only been to California once to see the sunsets out over the water to the West (and WHY I don't seem to have pictures of that, I do not know.) I'm not sure their sunsets can be as awesome as an East Coast sunrise!

Post 217: A Painting in Progress East Coast Beach Sunrise

Painting Name: East Coast Beach Sunrise

I haven't painting a sunrise in awhile so it was time. Here is the painting in progress.

SKU: 12GF21ACG
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 20x20 Stretched Canvas
Edition Year: 2021
Framed?: No
Check availability and Prints on my Etsy Shop

What Brought About this Painting?

When I painted "Sunrise Over Nags Head North Carolina", I really enjoyed painting the oranges, yellows, pinks, lavenders and blues of a sunrise - the sun making its daily progress of a day, showing its face over the water of another day.

The beginning of a sunrise...

By the way, watching the sunrise this morning was pretty awesome, even from here in Woodbridge, VA.

Saturday, December 4, 2021 8:45 pm Did some time today at Stonebridge Open Space Arts - met some wonderful people that were very excited to see ART in Prince William County! They had no idea there was anything going on with the arts here. Amazing.

Sunday, December 5, 2021 8:41 AM: The painting is coming along.

Please note that the actual sun is coming through window blinds on the right side, hence the odd shadows on the top right. Ok, listening to church online and back to painting...

Post 216: Art is All Over Prince William County

Art All Over Prince William County

I have dabbled in art throughout my life but only in the last year+ have I taken a career in art more seriously and continuously. That has led me to discovering the art life in and around Prince William County, which may be viewed by some as sort of an under the radar art scene to a degree. Do you agree?

Nonetheless, there is a LOT of Art going on in PWC and a LOT of very extremely talented people. This is what and who I have discovered so far.

Prince William Art Society

I joined PWAS in March 2021 after finding it on Facebook. I had passed Tackett's Mill for years, and never knew there was an art gallery called Clearbrook Center of the Arts on the back, lower side of the shopping center. Seeing an art event on Facebook, I popped in the door of Clearbrook, went to a PWAS meeting, and sent in my check to join.

Since joining, I have participated in my first art show -ever- in May 2021 (Spring Art Show at Tall Oaks Community Center in Lake Ridge, VA), have had my art hanging continuously at Clearbrook, displayed at Arts Alive, been juried into several art shows including the Sunshine Ridge Farm Winery Art Show, participated in the Occoquan Arts and Crafts Show, the Fall Tall Oaks Art Show, and more recently at Stonebridge - Potomac Town Center Open Space Art. All while starting some great friendships with other artists and I have learned a lot.

I've also become the Social Media Chair for PWAS recently. We've launched the PWAS Blog on September 1, 2021 called Artistry Spin. So besides promoting my own Blog DonnasCavePaintings https://donnascavepainting.blogspot.com/ and website Donna Liguria Art https://donnaliguriaart.com/ we push all of the below:

PWAS meets once a month on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:30pm at Tall Oaks Community Center 12298 Cotton Mill Dr, Woodbridge, VA 22192

Clearbrook Center of the Arts

Prince William Art Society are the 'artists in residence' at the Clearbrook gallery. As long as you are an artist in good standing at PWAS and you follow some basic rules on how to hang your art, members can display their artwork there. The gallery changes out the artwork/theme bimonthly and the Changeover dates and any directions are emailed out to the group prior to that time as well as posted on the PWAS Blog Artistry Spin

Clearbrook Center of the Arts
2230 B Tackett’s Mill Drive
Lake Ridge, VA 22192

PWAS Members volunteer some time per month to help at the gallery.

Prince William County Art Council

I joined the PWCAC in June 2021. Arts Alive, sponsored by PWCAC, was a fantastic event for my artwork to be seen, and purchased. PWCAC is also sponsoring the Stonebridge Open Space Art gallery along with JBG Smith which just extended the show for 2 more weeks until Dec 12th.

Herb Williams is the Arts Recreation Specialist with the Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism and is dedicated to building a larger membership base and a much stronger awareness of the Arts throughout Prince William County for all of the types of art.

PWCAC holds Zoom meetings once a month on about the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30.

Manassas Art Guild

Joining MAG in October of this year was my latest art group with some great people as well. I was able to take part in the Fall Gallery Walk in Manassas with other Art Guild members, some of which are also PWAS members. MAG members have various art events and art hanging in local businesses around Manassas throughout the year.

MAG holds their meetings at Creative Brush Studio on the 3rd Monday of each month at 6:30pm.

Creative Brush Studio

And through MAG, I met the wonderful ladies at Creative Brush Studio - owned Mary Reilly and Christine Reilly Raymond. Their studio offers a fine art gallery for art purchase, various shows through the year, classes and more.

So far, I have taken part in 2 juried events:

Best of the Region 4 sponsored by p-ART-ners, this show ran from October to November.

Creative Brush Studio Small Works Show and Sale

The Small Works Show is continuing until Dec 24th. I can't wait for what's next!

Creative Brush is found at 8951 and 8953 Center Street, Manassas, Virginia 20110

P-ART-Ners

I have not joined p-ART-ners but have met some of the wonderful folks associated with the group.

Stonebridge Open Space Art

The PWCAC and JBG Smith are sponsoring Open Space Art at Stonebridge which has been  a wonderful opportunity for local artists! The space is beautiful and a lot of people are discovering that Prince William County DOES indeed have an interest in the visual arts and the artists that do what they do.

The Stonebridge gallery was originally supposed to run the weekend after Thanksgiving: November 26 - 28 but JBG Smith group loved 'what we did with the place"! So they extended the show until December 12th! It will be open Friday to Sunday each weekend from 12 to 6pm.

We have met so many people over the weekend that literally did not know that anything "Art" was going on in the county!

This may sound like a lot and in a way it all is. Am I just scrapping the surface of what is in Prince William County or have I covered the art scene in the county? Apparently there is also the West PWC and the East PWC too, so maybe there are more groups.

And then its learning all the ways to get involved with art online! There is a TON to learn.

Nonetheless, building these great relationships with these art groups and studios AND with all the wonderful people that come to view what everyone has created - well, this is enriching my life. Yes, Virginia, there is ART in NOVA.

Post 215: Small Works Show and Sale at Creative Brush Studio in Manassas

Creative Brush Studio Small Works Show and Sale in Manassas, Virginia

Today, November 28, 2021, the Sunday after Thanksgiving is now called "Artists Sunday". We have Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Artists Sunday and Cyber Monday - all geared toward the big Christmas gift-giving push and countdown to December 25.

Artists Sunday in my opinion, is the more enjoyable one. Sure, the art is for sale, but it is also free to view and admire the art presented by local artists - ALL over the country. Here in Prince William County, many of our local art groups, art galleries and shows are getting the word out to support the arts, small business, and shop local - a great combo.

Celebrate the Art at Creative Brush Studio

Creative Brush Studio, located at 8951 and 8953 Center Street, Manassas, Virginia 20110 and online at
http://www.creativebrush.com/smallworks/index.html is now displaying art by approximately 35 artists - called "Small Works Show and Sale". Meaning that all the works are under 11x14.

I have 2 paintings at this show! The Small Works Show is on until December 24 - but get by there as soon as you can - the treasures are for sale after all, and your favorite may get sold!

My small 6x6 "A Slice of Cherry Pie" is above.

Taking a photo does not do the art justice. You have to see it in person to truly enjoy the experience that is art.

Today is Artists Sunday

Artists Sunday, the Sunday after Thanksgiving (Nov 28, 2021), is dedicated to supporting local artists and recognizing the impact they have in enriching our lives, communities, and the economy. Consumers are encouraged to shop with local artists, creators and makers and purchase creative, handcrafted items and artistic experiences for the holidays. Artists Sunday follows Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, prior to Cyber Monday. Supporters include thousands of individual artists, economic development agencies, commercial galleries, and non-profit organizations across the country, making Artists Sunday one of earth’s largest art events. Participation is free. To learn more about Artists Sunday and promoting commerce with artists, please visit http://ArtistsSunday.com/
