What Brought About this Painting?

Decisions, decisions on what to paint next. Well, I do like painting local Virginia places I've been and would like to go to or back to. So I decided on a series of paintings of historical homes in Virginia. I have Mount Vernon almost done and Monticello was next.

If you go to the Monticello website, they have virtual walk throughs to see and interact with. Every time I have ever been to Monticello, you could never go upstairs, but the website lets you see the second and top floors, which is pretty cool.

What Brought About this Painting?

I like painting 'local to me' places and things here in the great state of Virginia. One of the most historical of all places and houses in Virginia, is Mount Vernon in Alexandria. When I was in elementary school, Bucknell Elementary in Alexandria, Mount Vernon was a field trip spot. It has changed a lot over the years; the museum itself is incredible, but to lean on the mantel in George Washington's dining room is so cool.

What Brought About this Painting?

I painted a couple of golf ball paintings last year, and they sold, thankfully. So I'm going into 2022 with another golf ball painting at the edge of the hole, called "So Close".

Big blue sky and some big puffy clouds are a whole lot more than blue, black and white. Offhand, I'd say I used at least six different colors in this painting and one of them was NOT black.

What Brought About this Painting?

Actually it was the trying to NOT use the color black in a painting at all. Clouds made the perfect subject. Sure there are gray clouds which make you think to blend black and white, but that is not how I painted them.

I used blue, purple, white, yellow, red, and burnt sienna.
