Thanks to photographer Peter Olsen for the use of his wonderful snapshots of his visits to Blue Ridge Shores in Louisa, Virginia and the influence for several paintings I have done of BRS. And thanks to the Beckett's at BRS for those boat rides around the lake on summer evenings with my mom, bro and sister-in-law.

What Brought About this Painting?

Growing up at BRS was a wonderful experience for the most part and I've written about that before, and it's quite nostalgic - every visit. I've had this painting in mind for awhile, and finally started it while in Richmond, Virginia - house sitting, dog and cat sitting for a cousin with my aunt. My cousin's husband has an art studio in the pool house (thanks for the use, cousin!...for the POOL and the ART STUDIO!) so I set up my canvas on the easel with my paints.

When I asked Peter for permission to use his photo of the old stairs down to the pier, I believe he said they are no longer there. Someone must have cleaned that lot up but the black and white photograph of them was definitely not only striking, but a long memory of life around the lake, from years ago, having a boat and skiing around the lake and more recently boat rides with the Beckett's and family.

Not sure if I like the previous one better or not, as you can see, the water changed. One of those, "to tweak or not to tweak, that is the question". Ugh.

Bee Festival Saturday, June 25, 2022

The second annual Bee Festival took place Saturday, June 25, 2022 on the grounds of the Liberia House in Manassas, Virginia. The Manassas Art Guild (MAG) had 2 tents up and the members enjoyed the day having their art up to be seen by the many visitors.

"Save the bees + pollinators. Plant native! Dress like a pollinator. Costume parade, waggle dance, Food, mead, music, farm animals and more! Presented by: City of Manassas Beautification Committee" - From the Prince William Chamber of Commerce

The real stars of the show - the actual bee hives on the Liberia House grounds. Also note the artwork on the bee hives...I admire the folks in Manassas for their fantastic creativity and work at making the arts such an important part of their communities in everyday life at every opportunity.

A beautiful day in June in a fantastic setting, the Bee Festival was a fun day! Made even better when wearing bee antennae!

The gallery at Open Space Arts in Woodbridge, VA has upcoming art shows with themes that I hope a few of my last paintings will fit into.

At the ARTfactory in Manassas, Virginia

I have four pieces of artwork hanging at the ARTfactory at 9419 Battle Street, Manassas, Virginia 20110 from May 4 until June 4, 2022 with the Prince William Art Society's 50th Anniversary show.

In the center is my "Up in the Trees" Acrylic 11x14 painting

This is my 16x20 acrylic painting called "Belmont Bay Marina" which is in Occoquan, Virginia

This painting on the right is my 18x24 inch painting called "No One Can Teach Riding So Well as a Horse"

May 4 -  May 26, 2022 Beauty and the Beach at Stonebridge Open Space Arts Show 

A new month, a new art show. Open Space Arts at Stonebridge in Woodbridge, Virginia is a new art gallery sponsored by JBG Smith and PWCAC and managing the day to day activities is the Prince William Art Society. The gallery is currently showing the art of 19 different LOCAL Prince William County artists in a mixture of mediums and styles.

The gallery is between the new Barnes and Noble and the Loft on one side and Ulta on the other. Across the street is DSW. 15000 Potomac Town Center, Woodbridge, VA.

Open Wednesday - Saturday from 12-7pm and Sundays 12-5pm the gallery features art from some very talented artists from all parts of PWC. And some of my art is there too!
